Biennial Event – Registration and Information

Next Event : November 2026
Registration opens : 15 September 2026
The registration link will be available here, on this page.

Each Biennial Elargis tes Horizons's (EtH) event offers more than 25 ateliers interactifs en mathématiques, sciences et ingénierie, animés par des women scientists, engineers and mathematicians. Les participantes découvrent que ces matières peuvent être passionnantes, tout en explorant des pistes de carrière et l’importance de les approfondir à l’école.

The workshop leaders share their experience, serve as inspiring role models and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

A Salon des Découvertes with around twenty stands also enables girls to interact with women who live their passion for science on a daily basis in their profession.

Thanks to the generous support of our Partners and Sponsors, the ETH Biennial Event is completely free for all participants!

Frequently asked questions

How should girls dress ?

Wear comfortable clothes and don't be afraid to get dirty !

Can my other children attend the biennial event ?

The event is open only to girls aged 11 to 14, or in 8P and CO (or equivalent).

As a parent, may I attend the workshops at the biennial event with my daughter ?

No, the workshops for girls are designed to enable them to meet female scientists, explore new topics and discover exciting careers, together with their peers. However, you are welcome to attend the opening and closing sessions in the lecture theatre at 9am and 3pm.

Can the girls bring their phones ?

It is possible to leave it in the cloakroom to avoid losing it when moving around the building. However, if the girls wish to keep it with them, please put it in airplane mode.

Who are the supervisors for the day?

They are volunteers, either professionals working in a scientific environment or former participants who come back to help afterwards.

Are the girls free to wander around and leave the building during the day?

No. They are always guided to their workshops and do not leave the building, even to eat.

Is the cloakroom supervised?

Yes, it is monitored throughout the day. If it needs to be unlocked, please ask the Help Desk to open it.

How do girls find their guides?

There is always a meeting point at the beginning and end of each workshop/discovery fair session. This will be explained in detail during the opening session in the lecture theatre.

What happens if I do not want my daughter to appear in the photographs?

Photographers are instructed not to film or photograph girls wearing a red lanyard. There may be some cases where a girl wearing a red lanyard is in a group that is being filmed or photographed. When sorting through the photos, either the photo will be rejected or the girl's face will be blurred.

What will the girls have for lunch and how is it organised?

The girls can choose between a meal with meat or a vegetarian meal. If your daughter has any specific dietary requirements, please have her bring a picnik. At mealtimes, the girls will be guided to the cafeteria by the guides.

Why do we need a special science event just for girls?

European research has shown that in 2017, 41% of scientists and engineers in the EU were women. However, women accounted for only 17% of those employed in high-tech and medium-high-tech manufacturing. In Switzerland, only 32% of scientists and engineers were women.

Figures published by the Federal Statistical Office show that in certain research sectors in Switzerland, very few women obtain a doctorate. For example, in information and communications technology, only 15% were women in 2016, and in engineering, only 27%. These women worked mainly in agriculture and veterinary sciences (76%) and education (61%). But even in these fields, women failed to gain access to management positions (only 29% in agriculture and veterinary sciences).

To ensure that girls are prepared for the 21st century, we must address this issue early on, when they are deciding which subjects to study at school.

Are there any risks associated with participating in the ETH biennial event?
All activities and experiments are conducted under the supervision of professionals. However, some experiments require the use of electricity, liquid nitrogen or chemicals, and therefore there are potential risks such as electric shocks or burns.

To enable their daughters to participate, one of the parents must agree during the online registration process to the Disclaimer of liability for risks.
