Workshop presented by: Le SIB Institut Suisse de Bioinformatique (UNIGE)
Languages: French (2) and English (1)
Do a genetic test before taking medication? At first glance, the idea may seem surprising! And yet... The approach is very useful. What is the role of bioinformatics and what are the challenges of these new technologies in medicine? The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics offers you a workshop to better understand the health care of the future - taking as an example the treatment of skin cancer.
Workshop presented by: Marie-Claude Blatter

(03) Sexes
Workshop presented by: UniGe Bioscope
Languages: French (2) and English (1)
Discover the development of biological sex, address intersexuation and its medical and ethical issues (see the Bioscope website). What is the difference between sex and gender? How are genital organs formed? What is intersexuation? Why is the clitoris less well known in 2019 than the penis? By putting themselves in the shoes of a fictional couple, the groups of students approach the development of biological sex (genetic, gonadic, phenotypic) in order to determine and then make in clay the genital organs of the future child. In conclusion, during the presentation of the babies in each family, the medical and ethical issues related to intersexuation are discussed, as well as the concept of sex and gender continuum.

(04) C’est tout dans ta tête !
Workshop presented by: Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering
Languages: French (1) and English (2)
Dive into the brain and join us on a journey into the future of neurotechnology and robotics. Use augmented reality to turn your friends into bionic people implanted with hidden neurotechnology. Test your skill at controlling a robotic arm and steal the free-will of your friend using a human-human interface.
Find out how the Wyss Center is pushing the frontiers of implantable neurotech to develop the brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) of tomorrow. Pick up and touch prototype brain probes and implantable devices designed to help people with nervous system disorders.
Discover how neurotechnology can help solve some of the biggest medical challenges of our time from monitoring epilepsy to restoring movement, communication and independence for people with paralysis.
Workshop presented by: Johanna Bowler & Claude Clément

Workshop presented by: Chimiscope de l’Université de Genève
Languages: French (2) and English (1)
Come to discover some simple principles of chemical analysis to attribute an "identity card" to unknown substances.
Workshop presented by:
Dr Didier PERRET - Executive director - Communications manager
After a PhD in chemistry from UNIGE, I initiated a research unit in environmental chemistry at UNIL, then I led a chemical analysis lab in soil science at EPFL, before coming back to UNIGE to coordinate the outreach activities of promotion of chemistry.
Chimiscope, Ramène ta Science, and Science Me are among my favourite playgrounds, because I can convey with these communication tools the fascination of my science to schoolchildren and laymen.

Workshop presented by: HEPIA Biodiversity

What is an ecosystem? From decomposers to consumers, not forgetting producers, we will take a look around, through 3 animations, to discover how life is organized in our gardens.
Workshop presented by: Leïla Rabbani, Jessica Ranzoni
